MG India has announced the name of their first car for the Indian market, and the SUV is called Hector. It will be launched in the middle of 2019.

The British automaker will mark its entry in the Indian market with the introduction of an SUV named Hector. The name of MG’s first SUV for India takes the inspiration from Prince Hector of Troy. It is also named in honour of the British Royal Air Force’s Royal Hector biplane. The manufacturing of the MG Hector will be done at the company’s plant in Halol, Gujarat with an intention of making their first SUV highly localized, hence, keeping the price in check.

MG Hector will jump in the premium SUV segment, which is getting increasingly fierce of late. MG Hector will step up the games with upmarket features and push the standard higher. The engine options are expected to include a 1.5-litre petrol engine along with a 2.0-litre diesel unit. The exact power output of the diesel motor could range around 170bhp, making the Hector among the most powerful models in its class. This SUV is expected to compete with the likes of long-standing models like the Hyundai Creta, and new arrivals like Tata Harrier and the production version of the Kia SP Concept SUV.

Right now, MG India is kicking off their roadshow where they would display their global models throughout 10 big cities of India.
