The newly launched Tata Altroz is turning out to be a successful car for the manufacturer, as it outsold the old volume maker of Tata Motors in the month of January.

Tata Motors has launched the Altroz to take on the competition in the premium hatchback segment. Altroz is the first car from the manufacturer in this segment and rivals the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, and more. Launched in the month of January, Tata Motors has sold a total of 4,505 units of the Altroz in that very month itself, while the manufacturer sold a total of 4,315 units of its smaller hatchback – Tiago.

However, in January 2019, Tata sold 8,041 units of the smaller Tiago. Of course, the two hatchbacks from the manufacturers are not in direct competition to each other, but prices for the entry-level variants of the Altroz are in line with the mid and top-spec variants of the lesser Tiago. The Tiago and Altroz are important cars for the Indian carmaker as the Tiago was the volume generator for the manufacturer, and now the same is expected with the Altroz as well.

The Tiago and Altroz are offered with a 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated motor, which produces a peak power output of 86 PS and 113 Nm of max. torque. The refinement levels with the 1.2L engine are, although, different on these cars, as the Altroz gets an additional balancer shaft with the 1.2L engine. Both of these cars are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission, however, the Tiago also get an option of AMT as well. The Altroz is also offered with a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is based on the diesel power plant offered with the Nexon. Here, in the Altroz, it is in a lower state of tune with only 90 PS of peak power and 200 Nm of max. torque.

More Tata Altroz Sold Than Tiago In January 2020

Tata Altroz clocked a higher sales figure than the smaller Tiago in the month of January.

In terms of features, the Altroz is loaded to the brims. It gets a lot of features, which were never seen in this segment. Elevating the creature comfort on Altroz are some advance features such as rain-sensing wiper, cruise control, Harman-sourced touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, 7-inch digital display for the instrument console, and more. The Altroz is dimensionally bigger in reference to the Tiago and the big car feel is also a point working in the favour of this new hatchback from Tata Motors to grab some market share from the smaller Tiago.
