SUV is the hottest segment in the automotive market, which has prompted many car manufacturers to shift focus toward this segment. Hyundai, for example, is coming in full force with its global SUV line-up. It is reported that Hyundai is working on 4 new SUVs for the Indian market. Moreover, Hyundai is also readying a compact crossover for the European market. Recently, the car company has dropped a new teaser which reveals that the upcoming model will be known as the Hyundai Bayon.
This compact crossover is developed exclusively for the European markets. For the rest of the world, Hyundai will continue to offer the Venue as its compact SUV. On the global range, the Hyundai Bayon will sit below the Hyundai Kona. Hyundai Bayon compact crossover has even been spotted during testing in Europe. This model is likely to go on sale sometime in 2021. Until recently, the details of this upcoming SUV including the design remain mostly unknown. However, in the latest teaser, the Hyundai has revealed some small styling clues of the upcoming Bayon, including the cascading front grille, LED headlamps, and boomerang-shaped LED taillights.
In all likelihood, the Hyundai Bayon will share the platform with the i20. With this platform, the interior room will not be an issue. The use of this platform also helps Hyundai to keep the price in check. This crossover is expected to come with the front-wheel-drive system. The all-new Hyundai Bayon might come with two petrol engines, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol. The turbocharged engine comes in two states of tunes, 100bhp/172Nm and 120bhp/172Nm while the latter can put out 82bhp and 113Nm. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the 1.0-litre engine comes with a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT.
