The all-new crossover based on new-gen Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing on foreign soil. The automaker is likely to reveal this version of the hatchback globally in the coming months.

The Korean auto giant Hyundai has been recently spied testing the new crossover version of the new-gen Hyundai i20 on foreign land. The upcoming crossover hatchback has been snapped for the very first time, and it is expected to become the company’s most affordable crossover in the international markets. Looking towards the spy pics, the car does not look like a jacked-up version, like the Active i20, which is based on the outgoing model. Apparently, the commonalities with the third-gen i20 can be seen only upfront. The rear end of the crossover has been redesigned with a new set of taillights, new tailgate structure and bumper.

Moreover, one can also spot the cabin of the upcoming i20 crossover, which looks quite similar to that of its hatchback sibling as it gets the same centre console and dashboard. Inside, the crossover hatchback will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. The new infotainment unit will be compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Hyundai BlueLink technology. In the European markets, the upcoming i20 crossover will sit below IC-engine Kona and it’ll sit below the Venue compact SUV in America.

We expect Hyundai to introduce the i20 crossover in India in the near future to fill in the shoes of the Active i20. Moreover, it’ll also share a lot of mechanical similarities with the new-gen i20 like a 1.0-litre turbo GDI three-cylinder gasoline motor that is offered in two different states of tune and paired with a mild-hybrid 48V system. The hatchback will only be offered with the front-wheel-drive-system and the transmission choices are expected to include a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DCT.

Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Tata Altroz and Maruti Baleno. The new-gen Hyundai i20 is likely to hit the Indian shores by the upcoming festive season.
