New-gen Mahindra Scorpio Spied Again, While Testing in Production-ready Guise

The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio is likely to be offered with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. The Mahindra SUV will compete with the likes of Tata Safari.

The test mule of new-gen Mahindra Scorpio has been recently spied while getting tested on the Indian roads. Since the test mule of the all-new model of the car was heavily camouflaged, and most of the exterior highlights were neatly hidden. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most awaited car launches this year. The 2021 model of the SUV has been undergoing road tests for more than a year now. It is likely to be much more modern as compared to the outgoing model. On the outside, one can expect the mew-gen Scorpio to retain some bold styling cues of the current model.

Front-side-look-of-new-gen-Mahindra-Scorpio

The front fascia of the SUV will get its signature multi-slat grille, smart-looking rims, pronounced beltline and LED projector headlights. The spy images also show that the new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will get front and rear disc brakes. Till now, the SUV is only offered with front disc brakes. The top-end trim of the new-gen Scorpio is expected to be offered with 17-inch rims, which will come wrapped in 245/65-profile tyres. It will be based on a new platform, which is derived from the ladder-frame architecture of the new-gen Thar. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre engine. The former will develop 150bhp of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque, while the latter is likely to put out power and torque outputs of 130 PS and 320 Nm, respectively. Transmission duties, however, will be taken care of by a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

These are the same powertrain options, which does duties in the new-gen Mahindra Thar. We expect the carmaker to retune the motors. The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio could even mark the return of the AWD drivetrain. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio is likely to go on sale by sometime later this year. One launched, it will rub shoulders with the likes of Tata Safari and MG Hector. It is expected to be slightly expensive than the ongoing model of the SUV and will comes loaded with a lot of advanced features.
