Maruti is likely to launch the next-gen Maruti Vitara as its response to Hyundai Creta's prevalence in the compact SUV market.

Maruti is going to unveil the next-gen Vitara at the Auto Expo 2020. Currently, in India market, Maruti Vitara Brezza is the only SUV on its portfolio. The Brezza has helped Maruti to grasp the majority of the sub-four-meter compact-SUV sales in the market. But to the more premium space of compact SUV, Maruti doesn’t have its representative yet. This segment is now ruled by Hyundai, the second largest manufacturer in India just behind Maruti, with the Creta. Hyundai is making good money from this segment with 11,000 units of Creta sold per month. Apparently, Maruti could not shut eyes to this segment. With the new Vitara-based SUV, it is expected that Maruti will rip off a big chunk of sales from Hyundai Creta.

As a latecomer to the segment, Maruti will have to prepare carefully. The largest automaker is expected to stack a slew of advanced features on this new SUV, which will help Maruti Vitara-based SUV to stand out from the rest. In the meanwhile, Hyundai Creta will also make a move with the upcoming generation updates that are expected to bring more upmarket flavours to the table. Thereby, stiff competition on this segment is expected.

Moreover, with the seven-seater layout, the new Maruti Vitara offers a larger seating capacity than the ongoing Creta. In the near future, a seven-seater version of the Creta will also go on offer by 2020, which also means the new Vitara and Brezza will meet head-on. Also, the pair will also be joined with a representative from a less-popular brand, Tata Buzzard. In the upcoming time, the segment of compact SUV is going to get super intense.

The global Vitara received facelift updates last year. The make-over comes with design refreshment along with a load of new features for the interior. Notably, there was the addition of new infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, along with an array of driver assist and safety features.

The global version of the Vitara gets a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine that makes 111 PS maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque in place of the old 1.6-litre unit. The transmission options include a standard five-speed manual and an optional six-speed automatic unit.

No official announcement is made on the launch of the new Vitara from Maruti Suzuki. However, the new-gen Vitara was spotted last year, hinting on the entrance of this model to India.
