New Honda HR-V Gets Mugen Bodykit And Accessories

It was only a couple of months ago when Honda introduced the HR-V and tuners are already coming up with aftermarket packages for the vehicle. However, Mugen isn’t just any tuner but a company founded by Hirotoshi Honda, son of Honda founder Soichiro Honda. While Mugen is neither a subsidiary nor a division of Honda and is a standalone company, it is generally seen as an in-house tuner and among the first aftermarket companies to bring out products for a newly launched Honda.

Just recently, Mugen released a vast array of accessories for the JDM-spec Honda Vezel(name of HR-V in the Japanese market) ranging from a full body kit to other miscellaneous products like floor mats and wind deflectors. Mechanical upgrades are not available currently, but Mugen is offering a new custom exhaust system and an air filter that is derived from its race cars competing in the Super Formula and Super GT series. There are a couple of 18-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish that are also available, with both being lighter than the stock wheels.

Mugen’s program for the new Honda Vezel largely revolves around the small crossover’s aesthetics for now. Customer in Japan can order the new crossover with a contrasting roof and side decals along with different types of spoilers for the roof and boot lid. Additional garnishes for the front grille and side skirt is available too, as well as spoiler extensions for both ends of the Vezel.

The new Honda HR-V gets a coupe-like body style with a sharply tapering roofline and door handles hidden in the C-pillar. The new model gets LED headlights with LED DRLs, a larger front grille, roof-mounted rear spoiler, and LED taillights which span the width of the boot lid. The interiors of the HR-V has been given a thorough overhaul with the dashboard getting a new floating-type touchscreen infotainment system that gets integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are new ventilated front seats, a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, an automatically opening boot lid and more. Honda Connect, the automaker’s connected car tech is also offered here.

There are two powertrains for the new Honda HR-V. The first one is a petrol-electric hybrid which comes with a 1.5-litre engine and two electric motors. Peak combined power is 109 PS and it’s mated to a fixed-ratio gearbox. The other option is also a 1.5-litre but is conventionally powered and makes 121 PS of peak power. The engine is mated to a CVT auto gearbox.
