The Indian SUV segment is seeing a fierce competition between two siblings under the same umbrella of Hyundai Motor Group – the new Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While the latter is a highly successful model in spite of being a newcomer, the Hyundai Creta has soon re-established itself as the segment-leading vehicle after the first-gen version lost out to the Seltos in 2019.

In March this year, Hyundai introduced the new generation of Creta for the domestic market and in spite of the tough market situation, the new Creta has managed to outsell the Seltos to become the best-selling SUV of the country. Last month, the second-gen Hyundai Creta has, again, beaten the Seltos to retain its top position on the segment’s sales chart despite the poor demand and low buyer sentiment.

The new Hyundai Creta achieved a sales figure of 11,549 units in July 2020, outselling its cousin Kia Seltos which could register a sales number of 8,270 units. The third spot belongs to the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which has just received an update earlier this year.

2020 Hyundai Creta has been on sale in a price range of Rs 9.99 Lakh to Rs 17.2 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new-gen Creta shares a lot with its immediate rival Kia Seltos, including the same platform and powertrain options. Powering the Hyundai car are the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines making 115 PS of max power each, alongside a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol mill good for a power output of 140 PS. With the upgrades, the new-gen Hyundai Creta returns a higher fuel efficiency compared to the earlier generation model, which plays a vital role in the new SUV’s success. So far, the 2020 Hyundai Creta has bagged more than 55,000 bookings since its launch.
