New Hyundai i20 Gets Turbo Petrol Hybrid Powertrain In UK

Hyundai India is about to roll off the new-gen Hyundai i20 this festive season. Before entering the Indian market, the hatchback has made its global debut and started to go on sale in various markets, including the UK. In the UK, Hyundai is offering its popular hatchback with turbo petrol hybrid powertrain, which is different from the expected options for the India-spec model.

The drivetrain of the British-spec Hyundai i20 consists of a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine generates a top power of 100 PS and a maximum torque of 172 Nm. The power will be sent to the wheels through either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT unit. There is no pure manual gearbox on offer in the UK market. On the other hand, the India-spec model is expected to be offered with two petrol engines and one diesel unit. The petrol engines include a 1.0-litre turbocharged and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. There is also a 1.5-litre diesel engine as well.

Dimension-wise, the 2020 Hyundai i20 in the UK is 4,040 mm long, 1,775 mm wide and 1,450 mm high. The wheelbase of the new-gen hatchback measures 2,580 mm. As for the India-spec model, it is reported that it will sit within the sub-four-meter segment. It is likely that Hyundai will redesign the front bumper in order to reduce its length to under 4 meters.

On the international market, the third-gen Hyundai i20 is loaded with premium features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25 fully-digital instrument cluster, BlueLink connectivity system, 8-speaker Bose sound system, ambient lighting. In addition, the UK-spec model is also fitted with other features like SmartSense driving assist system, wireless charging, Smart Cruise Control, and Intelligent Speed Limit Information.

2020 Hyundai i20 is offered in three variants, SE, Premium and Ultimate. Prices of the new-gen Hyundai i20 start from GBP 18,595 which is approximately Rs 17.71 lakh. The top-spec variant, Ultimate DCT, is priced at GBP 23,354 (approx. 22.59 lakh). When entering the Indian market, the 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 9.5 lakh.
