Nissan Kicks is due to launch in October, and Nissan has set their date for the Kicks’s launch: the new SUV will be unveiled on 18th October.

Recently, Nissan has released a short peek of the new Kicks. In the Indian market, the car will be built on a lower-cost platform than the one underpinning the international version, the V-platform. India-spec platform, the B0, is shared with Renault Duster, Captur, and Nissan Terrano. It has been developed in-house in Nissan’s plant in Chennai. The strategy is to lower the cost of the car, carving a stance for their own. There is no surprise that Nissan Kicks will be out with a lower price than the Creta – its fierce future rival. Nissan hasn’t confirmed the price of the Kicks yet, but it is expected to be launched at around 9 lakh.

The change in the platform will also mean that the Kicks will grow in size as well. The India-spec SUV will look like a real SUV with a strong and pronounced built, unlike the sedan-like body of the international Kicks.

Apart from the different platform, the India-spec Kicks will look greatly like the international version. On the front face, it will keep the same v-shaped grille and swept-back headlight with LED DRLs as well as a rugged air dam. The floating roof with dual tone exterior paint is likely to be brought to the Indian market, too.

Under the hood, Indian-spec Nissan Kicks 2018 will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine as well as a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol motor will give out the peak power of 104bhp while the diesel will make 108bhp, a tad higher than the former. The transmission option includes a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or AMT.

Nissan Kicks will be the first all-new car for the Nissan after the GT-R in 2016. It will mark the turn in Nissan’s strategy in India market. Bringing the international success Kicks to the India market, Nissan hopes to promote the brand in this long-neglected market.
