Over 13 Units of New-gen Hyundai Creta Sold Every Hour Since Launch

Last year, Hyundai launched the second-gen Hyundai Creta in India. Despite the global health crisis, the new Creta has garnered massive success. Just in one year, Hyundai confirmed that 1.21 lakh units of the new-gen Creta were sold, which is an impressive volume for a car of its segment. We thought of making some simple calculations to find out how many units were delivered in an hour on average. Surprisingly, the result left us awestruck, as we found out that Hyundai sold over 13 units of new-gen Creta every hour, since its launch last year.

Ever since its debut in the country, Hyundai Creta has been the top-selling vehicle of its segment. However, after the launch of the Kia Seltos, the dominance of the Creta in the compact-SUV segment was challenged. Fortunately, Hyundai has responded timely with the second-gen upgrade for the Hyundai Creta. The new-gen version immediately catches on and returns to be the hottest car in its space. In fact, last month, Hyundai has led the monthly sales chart of the entire SUV segment, let alone the compact-SUV space. It is estimated that since the debut of this model in the market, Maruti has sold over 5.8 lakh units of the Creta. Moreover, Hyundai India also exported a huge number of Creta to the foreign market. It is confirmed that Hyundai has exported 2.6 lakh units of the Creta from India by far.

Commenting on this latest accomplishment, Mr Tarun Garg, Director of Sales, Marketing & Service Department, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, said:

He also added, “As we move ahead, I am confident that our smart Indian customers will continue to choose Hyundai cars that are redefining benchmarks across segments.”

The new report also suggests that the majority of the sales comes from the top-spec variants. Hyundai announced that 51% of the customers opted for the SX and SX (O) variants of the Hyundai Creta. These variants come with bells and whistles including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, electronic parking brake, to name a few. The provision of various high-tech and upmarket features is one of the main reasons that contribute to the success of the new-gen Hyundai Creta.

Notably, Hyundai also revealed an interesting statistic regarding the fuel choices of buyers. Accordingly, 60 per cent of the Creta buyers went for the diesel-powered model. This reveal shuts down the claim that the demand for the diesel model is going down. In addition, Hyundai also announced that preference for the automatic options is growing, accounting for 20 per cent of the total sales.

At the moment, Hyundai Creta is available with various powertrain options. There are three engines on offer, including a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. The last two options are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, each will get a different automatic gearbox: CVT for the petrol and a 6-speed torque convertor for the diesel unit. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine comes with a 7-speed DCT only. Hyundai Creta is now available at the starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh. The top-spec trims can cost up to Rs 17.53 lakh. It is widely known that Hyundai is working on the seven-seater version of the Hyundai Creta, which is about to enter the Indian market soon.
