Maruti Vitara Brezza in its facelifted avatar is available with a petrol-only power plant. However, that hasn't stopped it from topping the sales chart in June.
Maruti has recently updated its compact SUV offering – Vitara Brezza with a new petrol heart and some cosmetic changes as a part of its mid-cycle update. With the new petrol motor in place of the older-frugal oil burner, everyone was quite sceptical if the Vitara Brezza would be able to hold its position on the sales charts. But, now after almost 4 months from its launch, Vitara Brezza is back on the track. In June, it outsold every other compact SUV with a total sales figure of 4,542 units. Also, it was one of the 10 best-selling cars for June this year. Except for Vitara Brezza from this segment, it was the Hyundai Venue that made its way to this list with a sales figure of 4,129 units.
The facelifted Vitara Brezza is the only car in its segment to be offered with a petrol-only power plant. It gets a 1.5L K15B 4-cylinder petrol motor that is capable of putting out 104 PS of peak power and 138 Nm of peak torque. The old Fiat-sourced 1.3L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel, on the other hand, belted out a rated power output of 90 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. While the new engine can be had mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT, the oil burner was available with a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.
With the new engine in place, Vitara Brezza now returns a lesser mileage of 17.03 kmpl with the manual gearbox and of 18.76 kmpl with the automatic transmission. Interestingly, the SUV returned a fairly high figure of 24.03 kmpl with the diesel engine. Vitara Brezza also boasts of certain changes to its exterior and interior with this update.
The Vitara Brezza now gets a set of new bumpers, radiator grille, LED headlamps with dual-function LED DRLs, and LED tail lamps. All of these elements together infuse a sense of freshness to the car’s exterior. On the inside, however, the updates are rather minimal. It now gets the updated SmartPlay Studio 2.0 infotainment unit along with the addition of certain features to the list, such as rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming IRVM.
