It makes perfect sense for premium automakers to sell lengthened versions of their sedans in India as they're mostly chauffeur-driven. BMW is doing just that with the upcoming 3 Series Gran Limousine, and pre-booking for the new BMW will begin from January 11.

The 3 Series Gran Limousine version is slated for launch on January 21, 2021, and BMW has just announced that pre-bookings will start from January 11, 2021. You can place your order for the 2021 BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine from BMW India’s official website with a booking amount of Rs 50,000. Early bird customers will also receive the ‘BMW Comfort Package’ worth Rs 1 lakh as a complimentary gift. The package gets you an iPad and holder as well as a coat hanger for the interior.

The BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine is the long-wheelbase version of the standard 3 Series sedan that has already been on sale in China for quite a while. India will be the first right-hand-drive market to get this long-wheelbase version. The 3 Series Gran Limousine gets a 110mm longer wheelbase than the standard model to free up more cabin space at the rear, and the length of the sedan goes up by 120mm. It is also slightly taller though, with no exterior styling changes except the longer rear doors, which won’t be very noticeable.

The interior of the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine stays the same as well with the dashboard design and equipment model being carried over wholesale from the standard model. The extended wheelbase frees up 43mm of extra legroom at the rear and the longer doors improve ingress and egress. The Gran Limousine has been designed with the rear passengers in mind, and now gets improved cushioning and bolstering on the rear seats. Other main features include an 8.8-inch touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, interior mood lighting and more.

Powering the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine will use the same engine lineup as the standard 3 Series in India. Choices are between a 2-litre petrol engine which makes 260 PS or a 2-litre turbo-diesel making 190 PS. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic. The 3 Series Gran Limousine will slot in between the standard 3 Series and 5 Series in the Indian BMW lineup. It will probably replace the 3 Series GT, which has been already discontinued from BMW’s global lineup and India will follow the same soon. The regular new-generation BMW 3 Series is priced between Rs 42.3 lakh –  Rs 49.30 lakh, ex-showroom. Expect to pay a premium for the Gran Limousine over the standard model.
