The upcoming Tata Gravitas will become the brand’s new flagship SUV that rivals the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and MG Hector Plus.

It’s not a secret that Tata Motors has been working on the seven-seater version of the Harrier, named the Tata Gravitas. Given the success of the Harrier five-seater model, the upcoming Tata Gravitas is certainly worth looking forward. Earlier this year, the home-grown carmaker showcased the Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020. Recently, the production-ready version of the Tata Gravitas has been spotted sans camouflage on the roads. Thanks to that, for the first time ever, we can see the rear end of the imminent 7-seater SUV without any concealment.

In fact, spy shots of the Tata Gravitas had emerged on the Internet multiple times over the last few months but it’s the first time we can see the production-spec Gravitas SUV in the full flesh. The upcoming flagship SUV by Tata is based on the same OMEGA platform and follows the same IMPACT 2.0 Design philosophy like the Tata Harrier sibling.

The spy image gives us a glimpse at how the production version of the Gravitas would look like from the back. Despite bearing a striking similarity with that of the Harrier, it is still incorporated with some differences in details. From the look of it, the rear bumper of the Tata Gravitas gets a slightly different design in forms of the refreshed reflectors and silver inserts. Other than that, the Gravitas seems to get a more upright raked windshield compared to that of the Harrier, which can translate into extra headroom for the passengers at the third row.

What majorly sets it apart from the Tata Harrier is the side profile with the extended rear overhangs to accommodate the additional seats. There’s a larger rear-quarter window combined with some different styling elements in this area. Apart from these, the Tata Gravitas looks almost identical to the Tata Harrier sibling.

Things are also the same on the inside of the 7-seater car. From what’s shown at the Auto Expo 2020, the upcoming 2021 Tata Gravitas will make use of a dual-tone oak-brown dashboard layout with an 8.8-inch floating-type touchscreen infotainment system taking up the centre place. The all-new Gravitas will get captain seats for the second row but it will also come in a choice of a bench seat. The prominent features inside the Gravitas include a panoramic sunroof, premium Benecke-Kaliko oak brown leather seat upholstery, JBL sound system, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster and many others.

Under the hood of the Tata Gravitas will lie a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine making 168 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque. This engine will come paired with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed torque converter automatic option. There’s also a petrol engine option coming up with the Gravitas at a later stage. The launch of the new Tata Gravitas will happen sometime in March 2021 and it is expected to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the Tata Harrier.
