The Maxus G10 has recently been updated in its home market of China. The same car will be later sold in India as the MG G10 to rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta

MG Motors has had plans to expand its portfolio in India for quite some time now, but with the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, the plans were put on hold. The upcoming MG Gloster, which is a rebadged Maxus D90, has created a lot of anticipation in the market. Another Maxus vehicle that MG is planning to introduce is the G10 MPV. The Maxus G10 recently updated for the Chinese car market, and we expect the same version to make its way to India later this year or early next year.

The new Maxus G10 is available with two engine options, all of which have been upgraded to meet the 6b emission standards in China, one of the strictest emission standard in the world. The first engine option is a 2.0-litre, inline-4 turbocharged petrol motor. It is capable of developing 224 PS and 345 Nm and comes paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic. The second option is a 2.0-litre, inline-4, turbocharged diesel powerplant, which can generate 163 PS ad 375 Nm. Transmission choices here include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Earlier, the Maxus G10 was available in 7- and 9-seater configurations. This year, SIAC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, the parent company of both Maxus and MG) has also added an 8-seater configuration into the mix. The added versatility makes the G10 even more practical than before. Its prices now start at CNY 1,39,800, which is roughly equivalent to Rs. 14.96 lakh.

While there has been no confirmation on the launch window, plenty of reports have suggested that the Maxus G10, or rather the MG G10, is supposed to launch in India towards the end of the year or during early next year, and will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta. That being said, we expect the MG Gloster to be introduced earlier. According to the company, the Gloster would be a rival to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, although it will be priced much lower than that. Realistically speaking, the closest competitors to the Gloster would be the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Mahindra Alturas G4.
