Thanks to the introduction of a mid-range variant, Duster RXT AMT, the Renault Duster AMT range has become more accessible with a starting price of Rs 12.10 lakh

Renault Duster, the popular SUV from the French car company, will make a return in 2019 with several updates. Besides all the exterior changes and equipment addition inside, the most significant update in the 2019 Duster must be the birth of an RXS AMT variant. On entering the line-up, this mid-spec variant helps diverse the AMT choices and offers a cheaper alternative for the current AMT options. The Duster range also welcomes another trim to the RXS grade: petrol-manual RXS. Previously, RXS variant is only available with CTV gearbox only.

Along with the arrival of new petrol-AMT RXS and petrol-manual RXS, we also see the departure of the mid-spec RXL petrol and top-spec RXZ diesel AMT, shortening the line-up to only three variants, namely RXE, RXS and RXZ.  After the exclusion of the diesel AMT option, the top-of-the-line RXZ is now left with the diesel-manual powertrain only.

In terms of features, the 2019 version is also given some significant new equipment.  On the entertainment front, the Duster will adopt the new Renault’s MediaNav Evolution, a new system which was just introduced at Paris Auto Show 2018 in October. The infotainment system is now packed with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

ABS is now available across the range. However, the Duster still skips on the driver airbag on the standard package. Given that driver airbags and other safety features are becoming the norms in the market, as the response to the upcoming crash-test regulation, the miss of a basic airbag does make the Duster one step behind other rivals.

Under the hood, the Duster keeps the same powertrain from the previous version. 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motor continue to generate power for the Duster range. The former could provide 106bhp of maximum power while the later comes in two states of tunes, 85bhp and 110bhp. On the petrol variant, the power is transferred to the wheels via a five-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. While the lower-tune diesel engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, the 110bhp diesel is available with either 6-speed manual or an AMT unit. All powertrain option comes with a four-wheel-drive system.

The second-generation Duster might make its first public appearance at the 2020 AutoExpo Show. It is going to be priced at the same price bracket starting from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 13.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
