Renault K-ZE, or Kwid EV, claims a range of 271 km on a full battery. India launch may happen soon.

Renault has launched the K-ZE electric crossover hatchback in China. The EV claims a driving range of upto 271 Km on a single charge, which is quite impressive. There are five trims available, and the price ranges from 61,800 Yuan to 71,800 Yuan (or from ₹6.21 lakh to ₹7.22 lakh). The K-ZE was developed jointly by Renault and Dongfeng, a state-owned Chinese Auto-manufacturer.

Renault KZE first debuted in Paris Motor Show in 2018. The car was based on the Kwid crossover hatchback. It was apparent that the KZE was slated for Chinese launch first as multiple spy shots of test vehicles started surfacing in China. The EV will be manufactured by ‘eGT New Energy Automotive Co’, a joint venture between Renault-Nissan and Dongfeng Auto. The local manufacturing will help keep the costs low in the Chinese market. Venucia, a subsidiary of Dongfeng, will also be selling the vehicle with a few cosmetic changes.

The launch of the Renault K-ZE was a part of the French manufacturer’s strategy to launch three electric vehicles in the Chinese market. Renault wished to develop and manufacturer a mass-market EV, and plans to further reduce costs by reducing RnD costs.

The Renault KZE uses a 30kWh ternary lithium-ion battery and can deliver a driving range of 271 Km on a full charge. It takes nearly four hours to fully charge the battery from 0% charge. It also gets a fast charger that recharges 80% of the battery in just 50 minutes. The KZE also features full LCD digital instruments and control panel on the inside, which gives it a thoroughly modern touch.

The Renault KZE will carry the same look as the upcoming Renault Kwid on the exterior. While there is no confirmation of an Indian launch, there are a lot of rumours and speculations. If Renault manages to keep the Indian prices in-line with the Chinese prices, the Renault K-ZE would be a much superior vehicle than its competitors, like the Tata Tiago/Tigor EV and the Mahindra eVerito, which offer 140 Km and 110 Km of range respectively on a full charge.
