Renault Kwid Electric Patent Images Leaked, To be Sold as Dacia Spring EV In Europe

Renault and Dacia have been sharing products among each other to sell them across various international markets. Renault Logan and Duster were one of the few products from this alliance. However, now Dacia is planning to launch the cheapest EV in the world. To do so, Dacia will rebadge the Renault K-ZE, which is basically the electrified version of the Kwid that is sold in India with a Renault logo. Dacia will name the K-ZE as Spring EV and will launch it in the European market by the beginning of 2021. Although, Dacia has filed the patent registrations for the micro-SUV-based EV. As of now, the Renault Kwid EV is only sold in China.

Coming back to the Spring EV, it was first showcased as a concept, earlier this year in March. The concept made its global debut via an online presentation since the Geneva Auto Show was cancelled due to ongoing pandemic. During the presentation, Dacia claimed that the production-spec version of the Spring will offer a driving range of at least 124 miles or 200 km.

Dacia is planning to launch the rebadged Renault Kwid EV in the European market with a sub-10,000 Euro price tag. In China, Renault retails the K-ZE at a window sticker price of 8,000 Euros, which is equivalent to Rs. 6.87 lakh. Therefore, it for sure has the potential to become the cheapest EV in the world.

Talking of its technical specifications, the Dacia Spring EV will use the similar powertrain as the Renault Kwid EV or the K-ZE. It gets a 26.8 kWh battery pack that powers a 33 kW (44 HP) electric motor to offer an NEDC-claimed range of 271 km. Also, the car can reach a top speed of 105 kmph. Talking of the design, the Dacia Spring EV is no different than a Renault Kwid or K-ZE. It boasts of a similar styling package except for a new radiator grille that now houses the Dacia logo.
