Renault Kwid is one of the best selling hatchbacks in India. And on the way to make the greener and eco-friendly products, Renault is working on the EV version of the Renault Kwid.

Renault will enter the electric race with the Renault Kwid EV. The first market that it targets to launch the car is China – one of the largest market for the EVs. It was first introduced at the 2018 Paris Motor Show as the Renault K-ZE concept car, and the production version of the Kwid EV has been spotted recently in China.

The electric version will bear some dissimilarities from the Kwid with the internal combustion engine. The EV could get aggressive design elements, like sharp and unique headlamps and a new grille or a graphic tail light; just like what is offered on the K-ZE. While the concept car is claimed to have the range of 250km, the real-life version’s specifications are still unknown.

On the features front, the Kwid EV will get features like rear parking camera with sensors, touchscreen with navigation function.

The Kwid EV is born out of the partnership between Renault and Dongfeng – a Chinese company. The production of the Kwid EV will take place in a plant on Shiyan owned by Dongfeng. It is predicted that the company will start the manufacturing process in 2019.

About the Indian market, according to the plan announced by Renault last year, they will have four models lined up for launch in India market. Among these is one EV, which must be the all-electric Kwid. If this turns out to be true, the Kwid will be priced around 6 lakh, a competitive price that would allure many customers to this friendly and affordable option.

After the launch in China, the Kwid might go to the Indian market and rival WagonR EV

If launched in India, the Kwid EV will compete directly with the WagonR EV, extending the longtime rivalry incited between the Kwid and the WagonR. Other cars that would also join the EV segment by 2020 include the Nissan Leaf, Mahindra eKUV100 and Tata Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
