Renault is likely to introduce the LBA sedan in the Indian auto market to compete against the Maruti Dzire.

Expected to be the most remarkable launch of India this year, the Renault Triber will go on sale this July. The new entry-level sub-4-metre MPV is likely to become a big name in the segment that has a small representation in India. Slated to be sold in a price-sensitive market the Renault Triber is considered to be an important vehicle for the French auto manufacturer.

Furthermore, as the sales numbers of the Kwid have declined and the company is having difficulty in maintaining a consistent sales number, the Triber will be assigned the crucial task of registering 60,000 unit sales annually. Renault aims at increasing its sales volume by twice to 2 lakh units to raise its market share in India to nearly 5% by 2022.

To achieve this target, the auto manufacturer needs to penetrate into as many under-10-lakh segments as possible. A sub-four-meter sedan for India has been considered by Renault for quite some time now. After many delays, now, although there has been no official confirmation from the French company, a sub-compact sedan is highly likely in the near future.

Earlier codenamed as the LBC, the sedan might have been renamed as the LBA. Like the Triber, the LBA sedan will be underpinned by the highly-localized CMF-A platform to keep the price down. The sedan and the MPV are even expected to share some features with each other. The sedan is expected to keep under its hood a 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder petrol motor. The transmission duties will be undertaken by a 5-speed MT and AMT units.

Once launched, it is expected to take on the likes of the Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and Volkswagen Ameo. Thanks to the highly-localized CMF-A platform, both the Renault LBA and Triber will have an aggressive price and effectively compete against its rivals. The success of these vehicles will play an important role in determining whether Renault India can fulfil its ambition of attaining 5% market share by 2022 or not.
