Renault Triber Introduction

The Renault Triber is available in five variants.

Following the successful Renault Kwid, the French auto manufacturer has penetrated into the Indian MPV segment with the launch of the new Triber, which is the second MPV to be produced by Renault after the Lodgy.

Recently revealed at an international premiere in New Delhi which took place on June 19, 2019, the Renault Triber has proved that it is worth anticipating for. Developed under the cooperation between Renault’s facilities in France and in India, the Triber has been specifically designed for India with some unique features which differentiate it from other vehicles in the same segment. Despite being based on its hatchback sibling, the Renault Kwid, the Triber comes with its own identity inside out. Renault Triber 360 View: Exterior Review

If you look at the Renault Triber, the first thing to realize is that it bears no resemblance to the Renault Kwid on which it is based.

Front View

The front is pursuant to the company’s latest design philosophy with a bold V-shape grille, which is typical of Renault and comes with numerous chrome elements. Many SUV characteristics are added to the MPV to give it a bold stance. For example, the bumper sports a faux skid plate and some chrome components. The grille is flanked by the two projector headlamps which contribute to the robust appearance of the MPV. On the lower front, the Renault Triber is equipped with an all-black honeycomb grille, LED DRLs and fog lights, all of which give the MPV a premium look. The bonnet is thoroughly sculptured with sharp ceases, which has been indicated by the earlier-released teaser.

The Renault Triber front has nothing to do with that of the Kwid.

Side View

Even the side profile has nothing in common with that of the Kwid. The MPV gets some SUV characteristics such as the bold roof rail and the black plastic cladding which runs across the car body. The MPV runs on fashionable 5-spoke steel pressed wheels with 185/65 R15 tyres. These rims measure 14 inches in the lower variants and 15 inches in the higher-spec ones.

Furthermore, it is equipped with coloured ORVMs integrated with indicators and coloured door handles. One of the typical outstanding features of Renault models is the variant logo which is positioned on the doors instead of the boot area. The Triber inherits this tradition with the logo of the variant on the front-left door pillar.

The side profile of the Renault Triber is equipped with some features like the steel pressed wheels, coloured ORVMS, variant logo, etc.

Rear View

The rear is harmonious with the front, featuring many chrome elements on the bold lettering which reads ‘TRIBER’, polishing large taillights and the bumper with a faux skid plate. Moreover, the large opening tailgate which allows easy access to the boot space and the stoplights which are mounted on the roof give the MPV a unique appearance.

Generally, the Triber is a combination of an SUV and an MPV in terms of its exterior design. Although it is based on the Kwid, it bears no resemblance to the hatchback and has its own identity.

Renault Triber Dimensions: Length, Width, Height & More

The Renault Triber measures 3.990 mm in length; 1,739 mm in width and 1,643 mm in height with a 2,636 mm wheelbase and a 182 mm ground clearance. It offers an 84-litre, 320-litre and 626-litre cargo boot space in the 7-seater, 6-seater and 5-seater configuration, respectively.

The Renault Triber appears to be a highly practical MPV with a wide range of seating configurations which go with respective boot space.

That said, the most unique selling point of the Renault Triber must be its highly practical cabin, which makes it a perfect people mover.

Seating capacity

The Triber has an astonishingly amber cabin with a three-seat-row seating capacity for up to seven people, which is a clear advantage of the vehicle over other sub-4-meter vehicles. The third seat row does not provide a roomy space but it contributes to the flexibility of the vehicle. The 84-litre cargo space can be expanded to 625 litres with the rear seat rows completely folded or removed. In comparison, the Maruti Ertiga and the Swift offer a 550-litre and 350-litre boot space without the third seat row, respectively. In the six-seater configuration, the boot space of the Renault Triber measures 320 litres.

The Triber offers over 100 distinctive seat configurations. The second seat row is reclinable, slidable, foldable and tumblable, allowing the passengers who sit here to have decent legroom of up to 200 mm. The third row comes with a 50:50 split option and a roof height of 834 mm, which allows the car to accommodate full-size passengers at the back.

Interior Features

Like the exterior, the cabin of the Renault Triber is totally different from that of the Kwid with a more premium-looking dashboard. Despite quite a few hard plastic elements, this can be easily forgiven, considering its aggressive price.

Some of the outstanding features include an all-digital speedometer, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment setup which supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity. This is one of the largest units among all the under-INR 6 lakh cars in India. This is also wider than those offered on the Kwid, Duster, Captur and Lodgy. A 3.5-inch MID which shows various information such as speed, fuel mileage and fuel level, a semi-digital instrument cluster, air conditioner vents and 12V charging ports in all three seat rows are also provided by the Renault Triber.

The Renault Triber is equipped with a wide range of comfort and convenience features.

Moreover, the MPV is also equipped with start/stop push button, electrically adjusted windows and keyless entry. Nevertheless, armrest, automatic temperature control and steering-mounted buttons are absent. Adding to the practicality of the vehicle are the seatback pockets, one-litre bottle holders, a spacious cooled glove box in the centre and various cubbyholes which are of great use when you need to bring along personal things like mobile phones, etc.

Storage spaces are provided everywhere inside the cabin of the Renault Triber.

Safety and security features

The Renault Triber is equipped with a wide array of safety features, which is sure to provide both the driver and the passengers with the utmost safety on each journey. These features include four airbags which are a segment-leading feature, three-point seatbelts for all the three seat rows, even for the passenger who sits in the middle of the rear seat. To comply with the upcoming safety standards, the Triber also offers a speed warning system, seatbelt reminders for the driver and the front passengers and rear parking sensors as standard features across all variants and an optional reverse camera on higher-spec variants.

Renault Triber Performance: Engine Review

The Renault Triber is not available with a diesel engine option. Instead, it keeps under its hood only a BS6-compliant 1-litre 3-cyl naturally aspirated gasoline burner which can generate a maximum power of 72 BHP, which is 3 BHP higher than that of the Kwid, and the same peak torque of 96 Nm. The transmission duties are undertaken by only 5-speed manual transmission but an EASY-R AMT unit is expected to be offered soon.

Only one gasoline burner serves as the power source for the Renault Triber.

The power/torque output may seem not sufficient for a seven-seat MPV but Renault claims that the low-speed torque has been optimized to provide the Triber with a decent performance. Moreover, the French automaker is also developing a turbo version of the motor which is expected to make the ride of the MPV much more interesting.

Handling and riding quality

The MPV offers a decent ride by overcoming all the potholes and bumps effortlessly. The three-pot design gives an inherent imbalance, which means that the refinement levels are not the most excellent. However, the motor is quite punchy above 3,000 rpm. The transmission is not very smooth, but quite notchy. The most serious issue is the Triber's additional 220 kg over the Kwid, which dwarfs the slight increase in power.

Renault Triber Mileage: Is it fuel-efficient?

The Renault Triber Review is claimed to have an ARAI-certified fuel mileage of 20 kmpl and 20.5 kmpl for the manual and automatic versions, respectively.

Renault Triber Price: Is it Affordable?

Once launched in India, the Renault Duster is aggressively priced in a lower range than all the premium MPV in India, from INR 4.99 lakh to INR 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

At this price range, the Triber has competitors in India and is positioned between the Datsun Go+ (INR 3.86 lakh - INR 5.94 lakh) and the Maruti Ertiga petrol manual version (INR 7.44  lakh - INR 9.50 lakh), both of which are the most reasonably-priced seven seaters available in the Indian auto market currently. Renault Triber is the upcoming compact 7-seater MPV especially designed by the French automaker for the Indian auto market. Despite sharing the CMF-A platform with the Renault Kwid, the Triber will feature a unique design inside out with the most unique selling point being the highly practical cabin. It will be powered by only a petrol motor which is mated with both an MT and an AMT unit. The MPV will be specifically designed for India, which will be the leading market for the launch and sales of the vehicle; however, the product is also likely to be exported to other foreign markets as well.
