Skoda Kodiaq was launched backed in 2017. It has always been available with only a diesel heart but a new report suggests that a petrol variant will be introduced for the first time in 2020.

In India, Skoda Kodiaq comes with two variants – Style and Laurin & Klement. Both of them are powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that churns out the maximum power of 148bhp and the peak torque of 340Nm. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. Currently, the Style variant is priced at Rs. 35.37 lakh while the Laurin & Klement is more expensive at Rs. 36.79 lakh. The Kodiaq is expecting a new variant, the Scout, which will also be powered by the same diesel engine. The AWD system is standard across the range.

Skoda Kodiaq is going to get the petrol version in 2020

International-spec Skoda Kodiaq has always been offered with both diesel and petrol engine. Initially, Kodiaq petrol was powered by a 1.4-litre TSI unit along with a 2.0-litre TSI unit. The smaller petrol mill came in two states of tunes, 125 PS/200 Nm and 150 PS/250 Nm while the bigger unit made 180 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of maximum torque. Last year, the Skoda Kodiaq range added a new member which is the Laurin & Klement. At the same time, the engine line was also refreshed. 1.4-litre TSI is ruled out while a new engine is added. It is now available with two engines, 150PS 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine and the 190 PS 2.0-litre TSI.

India-spec Skoda Kodiaq is expected to get the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine

The new 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine is packed with automatic cylinder deactivation technology which was previously featured on the more powerful version of the old 1.4-litre TSI engine. These engines would be available with 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed DSG transmission. With the DSG option, the Kodiaq will come with an AWD system. On the 2.0-litre TSI engine, the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch unit will be offered as standard.

For the upcoming India-spec petrol version, it is expected that Skoda will carry the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine combined with 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain is available with FWD system.
