Skoda Kushaq's Prices To Be Unveiled In June, Launch In July

The Skoda Kushaq is the latest entrant in the cutthroat compact SUV segment. It is based on VW's new MQB-A0-IN platform to keep prices aggressive. Read on to know full details.

Skoda Motors unveiled the Kushaq yesterday in an online world premiere. It is based on the 2020 Skoda Vision IN Concept that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Today, Zac Hollis, Skoda’s director of Sales, Service & Marketing has announced on Twitter that the Kushaq’s launch prices will be revealed in June and the compact SUV will go on sale the next month in July.  Upon launch, Skoda’s compact SUV will compete with the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, MG Hector, and the Renault Duster. The Kushaq is the first vehicle under the VW group’s India 2.0 project and will utilize heavy localisation of parts to keep costs low. It has already achieved a 95% localisation level with the new MQB-A0-IN platform it is based on specifically developed for India.

MQB-A0-IN is a modified version of the MQB-A0 platform that underpins a lot of VW group vehicles in the international market. The Skoda Kushaq’s dimensions are 4,225 mm for length, a 1,760 mm width and a height of 1,612 mm. Its wheelbase of 2,651 mm is one of the longest in the segment while a ground clearance of 188 mm should see it tackle bad Indian road conditions without any issues. The boot capacity of the Kushaq is a respectable 385 litres.

The Skoda Kushaq will come loaded to the brim with features like automatic LED headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting, mobile pockets, ventilated front seats, analogue instrument cluster with a MID in the middle, auto climate control, cruise control, a wireless charger, an electric sunroof and rear parking sensors. The Kushaq also gets a suite of safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program, Multi-Collision Braking, Hill-hold control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX mounts with curtain and side airbags available as an option. There will be five colour options for the Kushaq - Candy White, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel, Honey Orange and Tornado Red with the latter two of them being exclusively made for India.

Powertrain options for the Skoda Kushaq include a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol which is also being used by the Volkswagen Polo, Vento and the Skoda Rapid. The engine makes 110 PS and 175 Nm of peak power and torque respectively and will be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The other powertrain option is a 1.5-lite four-pot turbo petrol which currently does duty on the Volkswagen T-Roc and Skoda Karoq. It makes maximum power and torque figures of 150 PS and 250 Nm respectively and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG auto only.
