Skoda Rapid AT Launched, Continues To Be Affordable - Prices Inside

Skoda Rapid AT is finally launched in the Indian market. From now on, the Skoda Rapid will be available in both manual and automatic version. The automatic powertrain will be available at the starting price of Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Skoda Rapid AT gets the new 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of developing a top power of 110 PS and a maximum torque of 172 Nm. The similar automatic gearbox is also used on the Volkswagen Polo.

It is claimed that the new petrol-automatic combination can return an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 16.24 kmpl. On the other hand, if mated to the 6-speed manual gearbox, the petrol engine can offer a better fuel mileage of 18.97 kmpl (ARAI-rated).

Compared to the previous automatic version, the new Rapid AT is claimed to feature a fuel efficiency increase of 9%. Also, the new torque-converter gearbox, automatic variants of the Rapid have become more affordable in comparison to the older Dual-clutch transmission-equipped trims. On top of that, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine itself is more powerful than the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine seen on the BS-IV model.

In terms of features, the Skoda Rapid is well-equipped with a long list of equipment. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink connectivity system, rain-sensing wipers, leatherette seat upholstery, flat-bottom steering wheel, rear AC vent, automatic climate control system, reverse parking camera, footwell ambient lighting, height-adjustable driver seat, and more. As for the safety front, the Skoda Rapid comes loaded with a host of safety features including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, and speed alert system. These features are available as standard fitment across the range. The top-spec variant receives some extra safety functions like four-airbags and cruise control system.

As far as the exterior design is concerned, the Skoda Rapid AT sees no updates compared to the regular version. It still features projector headlight with LED DRLs, body-coloured spoiler, front and rear foglights, rear diffusers, tinted glass fro windscreen and windows and more. The bookings for the new turbo-petrol-automatic Skoda Rapid are already open at a token price of Rs 25,000. It is expected that the deliveries of the new automatic version will begin soon. With the addition of the new automatic gearbox, the Skoda Rapid can now compete with the automatic variants of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz.
