Skoda Rapid is fast nearing a decade of being on sale in the C2-segment sedan of our car market. It locks horns with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and VW Vento. Earlier this year, the automaker launched a new facelift model of the sedan with a few cosmetic upgrades along with a BS6-compliant petrol powertrain. It is worth mentioning here that Skoda India has plans to launch the new-gen model of Rapid in the Indian market by 2021. The all-new model of the sedan will be based on the company’s MQB AO IN platform. The upcoming Skoda sedan will be offered with the same engine options. THe current model is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder gasoline mill, which develops 109bhp of power and 175 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The engine is rated to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 18.97 kmpl.

The ongoing model of the car offers features like auto headlamps, auto wipers, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment and premium leatherette upholstery. All these features will also be offered with the upcoming new-gen model. It’ll also employ an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest connectivity features and a fully-digital instrument cluster. The current-gen Skoda Rapid is priced between Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to Rs 11.799 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
