As suggested by a recent report, Skoda’s first electrified vehicle, Skoda Superb Plug-in Hybrid is headed to India

Just several days ago, Skoda Auto started teasing its much-awaited Skoda Superb (facelift) in a new sketch divulging that it will be the first Skoda model to come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain system. Now we learn that the Czech automaker might bring the Superb PHEV to India by the year-end of 2019. If launched, the new Superb facelift would be the second vehicle after the BMW i8 to be launched with plug-in hybrid tech in our country. Note that the latter has been no longer on sale in India.

The 2019 Skoda Superb (facelift) has been unveiled in an official sketch released by the carmaker some days ago.

Until now, Skoda has kept some specific electric vehicles up its sleeve, but a few could be ready for the India launch soon. Speaking about the company’s electrification journey in the market, Skoda Auto India’s HR boss, Bohdan Wojnar revealed that they are all set to kick off the plan with a hybrid.

“Getting the right infrastructure in place for electric vehicles will not happen overnight in India. But I’m sure that a lot will happen in this regard over the next decade- Skoda Auto stands ready as we’re marketing fully electric vehicles, and our Superb Hybrid cars, for example, will also be of value for the Indian markets”.

The new Skoda Superb facelift will get a plug-in hybrid system and will enter India in the coming time.

The updated version of Skoda Superb sports a host of cosmetic changes and equipment updates as compared to the preceding version. A set of Bi-Xenon headlamps will come to replace the regular LED headlamps while the infotainment system could be upgraded to the third-gen MIB3 (Modular Infotainment Matrix 3) unit.

Powering the Skoda Superb facelift should be a 154 PS 1.4-litre turbocharged TSI four-cylinder petrol engine supported by a 115 PS electric motor, which will be, by all ways, churn out the total power output of 218 PS. The electric motor here will draw the juice from a 12 kWh battery setup. The Superb Plug-in Hybrid can cover the range of around 70 km in pure electric mode.

The 2019 Skoda Superb will make its global debut on May 23 of this year and the production of the electrified version will commence at a little later time. Expecting the India launch to happen around the festive season of 2019.
