Skoda Auto first unveiled the all-new Vision IN concept earlier this year at the 2020 Auto Expo, hinting at a brand new SUV that’s specially made for India. While Skoda is yet to confirm the exact launch date of the production-spec model, it seems that the launch of the Skoda Vision IN will take place during the second quarter of 2021. Also, the carmaker will launch a mid-size sedan by the end of next year. This news comes to us as Zac Hollis, Director, Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda India replies to Skoda fans on Twitter.
Set to be launched under the India 2.0 program, the Vision IN will be the first Skoda car to be based on VW’s MQB A0 IN platform, which is specifically developed for India, thereby fulfilling the needs of the Indian customers. The upcoming mid-size SUV will be the most affordable offering from the Czech company in our country.
While the Skoda Vision IN just came as a concept car, the digital rendering of the SUV has been released. The car will get a very similar Skoda family front end that will feature a Skoda-signature butterfly grille, split headlights with full-LED bulbs, and LED fog lamps. It will come with a rugged and muscular exterior design along with plenty of premium features inside the cabin. Expect the Vision IN to be equipped with a virtual cockpit featuring a 10.25-inch MID, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The carmaker is yet to announce the official name of the upcoming SUV, but we do expect it to be christened as Kosmiq or Kliq. The engine details of the Skoda Vision IN are still under the wraps now but it is likely to use a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit. The upcoming Skoda Vision IN will sport no diesel variant on offer. Talking fo the mid-size sedan that Zac Hollis talked about, it is expected to be the successor of Rapid as the brand has confirmed of launching the Octavia in the first half of the next year. However, as of now, not much details have been revealed of the upcoming mid-size sedan.
