The all-new SUV from Skoda which is expected to be launched in India in early 2020 to compete against the Hyundai Creta and Tata Harrier has been named Skoda Kamiq.

The name “Kamiq” originates from the language of the Inuit people who live in remote Greenland and northern Canada. In their language, “Kamiq” means something which can deal with all conditions. The SUV has been named “Kamiq” to represent the expectations that it can effortlessly overcome most difficult road conditions. This name has also been given to the China-bound SUV by the Czechs automaker. Noteworthily, the name follows the company’s naming strategy for their SUVs with the first letter being “K” and the last letter being “Q”. It will soon participate in the Skoda’s SUV portfolio in India after the Kodiaq and the Karoq.

The headlamps and the DRLs will come with separate housings. Take a look at the teaser.

Underpinned by the MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group, the Skoda Kamiq will compete against the Volkswagen’s T-Cross once it is launched in the global market later this year. The SUV is also anticipated to go to India by early 2020 after its global launch. It will be based on the economic MQB-A0 platform which is being specifically developed for the developing auto markets like India. Expected to be the most reasonably-priced SUV in India, the Kamiq will directly take on the likes of other vehicles in the same segment like the recently-launched Tata Harrier and the Hyundai Creta.
