SsangYong Korando EV was recently spied getting tested in Australia. The all-new Hyundai Kona EV-rival is expected to debut in the global market by next year

SsangYong is currently working on the fully electric version of the Korando SUV. Recently, the car was spied getting tested in Australia, while earlier, the car was caught on camera going through cold-weather testing in Sweden. The all-new SUV will be based on MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) platform developed by homegrown UV giant. Moreover, the powertrain is expected to be manufactured at carmaker’s EV facility in Chakan near Pune. The modular architecture will employ a lithium-ion battery. The design langauge of the Korando EV is quite similar to its IC-engined sibling.

The SUV was snapped getting tested in Austrlia under camouflage 

We expect the SUV to feature a new badge, charging port along with subtle cosmetical changes. The new Korando E100 will debut globally by the second half of 2021, and reports suggest that SUV will offer best in class acceleration. The SUV will get propelled by a 140 kW electric motor coupled to a 61.5 kWh battery pack. The electric powertrain is efficient enough to offer a range of 420 km in one full charge. Once launched, the Korando EV will compete with the likes of Hyundai Kona EV. Dimensionally, one can expect the new Korando EV to be bigger than Kona. The all-new SUV can achieve an electronically limited top speed of 150 kmph.

Cosmetically, the Korando EV looks quite similar to its IC-engined sibling

Talking about its Korean rival, the Hyundai Kona EV derives power from a 39.2 kWh, lithium-ion battery that produces power and torque outputs of 134bhp and 395 Nm. The SUV offers 450 km of range on a single charge. Kona EV is offered in two different variants namely- Premium and Premium dual-tone and is priced between Rs 23.86 lakh to Rs 24.05 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes loaded with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charger, electric parking brake, 10-way adjustable driver’s seat, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats and much more.
