While the Suzuki Jimny made its India-debut at the 2020 Auto Expo and could launch by next year, the SUV has been re-launched as a light commercial vehicle in Europe.
As a replacement for the Maruti Gypsy in the Indian auto market, the Suzuki Jimny is highly anticipated in the country, especially among off-road enthusiasts. Recently, the SUV has been re-launched in Europe, where the compact-SUV has gone on sale as a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) after its passenger iteration was discontinued recently.
The Europe-spec Suzuki Jimny is a two-seater version which gets a flat-floor luggage compartment. A safety cargo is available to divide the front seats and the luggage space into two separate sections. The luggage compartment has an 864-litre cargo capacity. Some of the noteworthy safety technologies include Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) and emergency messaging function just in case of a collision. Noteworthily, the Jimny is equipped with an AllGrip Pro 4WD system as standard across all of its variants and low range transfer gear.
The global-spec Suzuki Jimny comes with a two-seater layout with a large lugguage compartment.
The new Suzuki Jimny has a 1090-metre kerb weight, a 4.9-metre turning radius, a 40-litre fuel tank capacity and a 145 kmph top speed. Furthermore, the 210-mm ground clearance, 49-degree departure angle, 28-degree rampover angle and 37-degree approach angle make the SUV an ideal off-roader. The claimed fuel mileage of the car is 145 kmph. The SUV receives its power from a Euro VI-compliant 1.5-litre 4-cyl motor which can deliver 100 HP against 130 Nm and is paired with a 5-speed MT unit.
The India-bound Suzuki Jimny is expected to be the bigger five-door version. The Jimny can accommodate four passengers with a long list of features such as automatic LED headlights with high beam assist, a 7-inch infotainment system and automatic climate control. Once launched, the Suzuki Jimny will be priced at about INR 10 lakh through NEXA chain. The SUV will compete against the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
