Tata Altroz Clocks Higher Sales Figure Than Hyundai Elite i20

Tata Altroz has surpassed the sales of Hyundai Elite i20 by selling 3,104 units, however, Maruti Baleno remains at the top of the sales chart.

Maruti Baleno continues to be the top-selling car in its segment by selling 4,300 units last month. The automaker sold 13,689 units of the premium hatchback in the same month last year. Maruti Baleno has faced a 69 per cent drop in sales as compared to the sales of June 2019. The Baleno rubs shoulders with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Tata Altroz. The latter was introduced in our market early this year. In June 2020, Tata Altroz performed better than the Hyundai Elite i20 in terms of overall sales. Tata retailed around 3,104 units of the car while Hyundai sold 2,718 units of the premium hatchback. The Korean automaker retailed 9,271 units of the Elite i20 in the same month last year with Year-on-Year sales de-growth of 71 per cent.

In spite of the sales slowdown due to the current situation, the Tata hatchback has been recording good sales numbers. Nevertheless, the Hyundai Elite i20 could make a comeback soon with the introduction of the new-gen i20. The all-new Hyundai i20 is based on the latest Euro-spec version and it features a new grille, redesigned bumper with sporty-looking air inlets, a new set of alloy wheels and an upgraded rear fascia with new taillights. The new model will employ some technological updates like Hyundai BlueLink connectivity along with some advanced equipment.

Talking about Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback is priced between Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base XE trim and goes all the way up to Rs 9.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-of-the-line XZ variant. Tata Altroz is the company’s first model based on modular ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform. In terms of dimensions, the premium hatchback is 3,990 mm long, 1,755 mm wide, 1,523 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,501 mm. Moreover, it stands 165 mm above the ground and offers a boot space of 345-litres. Mechanically, it derives power from 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both the powertrain options come paired with a 5-speed MT as standard.
