The stringent BSVI emission norms will kick in by 1st April 2020. A few months ago, Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki discontinued diesel engine options offered with the lower segment cars and started retailing new BSVI compliant motors. Right now, Maruti offers majority of BSVI compliant vehicles as compared to the other car manufacturers. Expect Maruti Suzuki, carmakers like Tata, Ford, Hyundai etc has started updating their cars as per the new BSVI emission regulations. Ahead of the deadline, all-these manufacturers have already updated their small cars with BSVI compliant oil burners. Here’s is our list of 4 BSVI compliant cars one can buy in India under Rs 10 lakh price bracket.  

1) Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Among all the cars on our list, the Grand i10 Nios is the only car which is offered with an AMT gearbox

The first car on our list is the Grand i10 Nios, which competes with Maruti Swift. The premium hatchback is being offered with three BSVI compliant powertrain options- 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. The diesel engine offers 74bhp of power and 186 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are done by a 5-speed MT and AMT transmission. Among all the cars on our list, the Grand i10 Nios is the only car which is offered with an AMT gearbox. 

2) Ford Figo

A few weeks back, Ford India introduced the BSVI complaint Figo in India. The B1-segment hatchback rivals with Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Ford Figo is not among the most likeable car in its segment, but the hatchback is appreciated for its smart looks and sorted dynamics. The diesel variant of the car is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel mill that produces 100 PS and 215 Nm of twisting force. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. 

3) Ford Freestyle

As compared to Figo, the Ford Freestyle has a more rugged look along with some added features

Ford Freestyle is the crossover version of the Figo hatchback and it recently received BS-VI complaint powertrains. Both the cars, Figo and Freestyle are powered by the same 1.5-litre motor, which offers the power and torque outputs of 100 PS and 215 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed MT. Ford Indian now offers 3 years/ 1 lakh kilometre warranty with the new BSVI compliant engine options. As compared to Figo, the Ford Freestyle has a more rugged look along with some added features. 

4) Tata Altroz

It is the first premium hatchback offered by Tata, which rubs its shoulder with the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20

The last car on our list is the Tata Altroz, which recently got launched in India a few months back. It is the first premium hatchback offered by Tata, which rubs its shoulder with the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Mechanically, the car gets propelled by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which also powers Tiago, while the 1.5-litre oil-burner is a de-tuned version of the diesel motor offered with Nexon.
