Tata Altroz will be launched in July this year. It is expected to get the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that is featured on the JTP variants on the Tiago and Tigor.

After launching the Harrier earlier this year, Tata will get back to the game with the launch of a new hatchback – the Tata Altroz. Tata Altroz is based on the 45X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. And the near production Altroz was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show this year. It is expected to be launched in June 2019. Spotted on road for several times, Tata Altroz seems to stick to the concept design. It is not an overstatement that it could be one of the best-looking hatchbacks in the market.

As far as the engine options are concerned, there is nothing certain yet. But it is speculated that this hatchback will borrow the engine from the Tata Nexon. On the Nexon, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine could make 102 PS and 140 Nm. According to some sources, this hatchback might even come with a hybrid system. And possibly, just like the Tata Tiago and Tigor, the Altroz might also go on sale alongside a high-performance variant JTP. As per suggestion, the same 1.2-litre petrol used on the performance JTP variants will be carried to the Altroz. This engine, on the Tigor and Tiago, could deliver 114 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of peak torque. Along with new turbocharger, the premium hatchback is expected to deliver more power out of the same engine. With such high power output, the Tata Altroz JTP will triumph other same-class models hand down in terms of powerful performance.

For now, it is rumoured that Tata Altroz will have no diesel engine up its sleeves considering the current downfall of the diesel engines in the hatchback segment. Most of the manufacturers are parting with oil burners. Even the best-selling models in the segment like Maruti Swift or Baleno will no longer be available with the diesel mills.

At the price bracket from Rs. 6-9 lakh, Tata Altroz will lock horns with Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz.
