While the Tata Nexon used to be highest selling car in the Indian carmaker's product portfolio, the Maruti Baleno-rivalling Tata Altroz has now taken this place

Tata Motors has become the third-largest carmaker after selling more cars than the likes of Kia, Mahindra, Renault, and others. While it still trails a fair way behind Maruti and Hyundai, it is still a very successful period for Tata compared to its up and down years previously. It was a close call between Tata and Kia for third place, with a difference of sales of just a few hundred cars between the two. Sales have more than doubled for Tata last month compared to last year. It sold 21,640 units compared to 10,400 units in November 2019. Sales did drop a bit compared to October 2020 but that is expected as car sales are usually highest during the festive period.

When the Tata Altroz launched earlier this January, it went under the radar a bit due to the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing national lockdown. No one had expected that the Altroz will be Tata’s highest-selling vehicle last month. It was already up against the likes of the Maruti Baleno and then the all-new Hyundai i20 launched recently as well. But it’s feature-packed variants and affordable prices saw the Altroz selling 6,730 units in November.

The Tata Nexon comes second, and it is continuing to be a consistent seller for Tata. The compact SUV sold 6,021 units, compared to 3,437 units sold last year, a YoY growth of 75%. The Tiago takes third place by selling 5,890 units in November, a 22% YoY increase as it sold 4,811 units the previous year. The Tiago is Tata’s entry-level hatchback and customers have been impressed by its pricing, fuel efficiency, and creature comforts.
