Being the brand’s foray into the premium hatchback segment, the Tata Altroz came to us early this year and is currently available in both petrol and diesel variants along with a sole 5-speed manual gearbox unit. Therefore, it would come as a bit letdown for those looking for a turbo-petrol powered premium hatchback option and the same has been developed under the house of Tata. What’s interesting is that the automaker might introduce an optional dual-clutch transmission alongside the Altroz turbo-petrol this time around.

The upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is expected to deliver a maximum power of 110 PS and peak torque of 140 Nm. This mill will be mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. This unit will be a detuned version of the 1.2L turbocharged petrol motor that does duties on the Nexon. Under the Nexon's hood, it propels 120 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque.

As seen from the spy images of the Altroz turbo earlier on, the turbo-petrol derivative of the Altroz will not have any cosmetic changes compared with the regular version, except for the “Turbo” badging. It is expected to see some subtle revisions on the inside. It will also boast of Tectonic Blue colour option sourced from the Tata Nexon. The Tata Altroz Turbo variant is expected to be priced in between Rs 7.99 – 8.59 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom). Apart from the new Hyundai i20, the Tata Altroz Turbo will also compete with the Volkswagen Polo in the premium hatchback segment.
