Tata Blackbird is another SUV that Tata plans to launch and is predicted to enter the premium space. Here are the details and price of the Tata Blackbird SUV.

Lately, a new compact SUV has joined Tata Motors’ line-up, and that’s Tata Harrier. The company is also preparing for the new Tata Altroz, not to mention the seven-seater H7X also on the go. That said, Tata doesn’t seem to ease their fierce eyes on the SUV segment. It is reported that Tata is planning another new car to compete in the space of premium SUV along with the Hyundai Creta.

In the recent portfolio of the Tata, Tata Harrier which lands on the full-size SUV segment has its price range from 12.69 to 16.25 lakh while the Tata Nexon from the sub-four-meter SUV rates from 6.36-10.80 lakh, meaning there is a gap in the price range that Tata can fill with an all-new premium SUV. The premium SUV space is not as crowded and thriving as the sub-4-meter segment, but this segment still garners a huge following and sales number that Tata could hardly resist. The segment-leading Hyundai Creta which recently reached 5 lakh sales has gained a huge profit for Hyundai.

Tata Blackbird

The price of the Tata Blackbird SUV will be from Rs 9 to 14 lakh, rivaling the Brezza

Initially, Tata Motor had an intention to develop a premium B-segment SUV based on the Omega Arc Platform (D8 platform) just like on the Tata Harrier. But the Land Rover-derived platform isn’t technically suitable for a B-segment SUV, and even possible, it would soak up a huge cost. Tata is left with no choice but to opt for the in-house built platform ALFA Architecture or the Alfa-Arc. The platform is going to be extended to reliably support the huge body of premium B-segment SUV.

The new Tata SUV receives the codename Blackbird. On the Alfa-Arc platform, it would be the first AMP model to stretch over 4,000mm. In the production form, the length of this SUV is expected to measure from 4.2 meters. On the powertrain front, the Tata Blackbird might sport a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is sourced from Tata Nexon and brought along with updates for higher power output. On the diesel version, the reworked 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine will most likely appear under the hood. As far as we know, the AMP platform could also adopt an electric powertrain, which indicates the high chance of the electric version of the Tata Blackbird.

This vehicle might be scheduled to launch around 2021. The Tata Blackbird SUV price bracket, theoretically, will range from Rs 9 -14 lakh in order to fill the space between the Nexon and Harrier. After launch, the Tata Blackbird will lock horns with Maruti S-Cross and Hyundai Creta.
