Tata Gravitas to Have Multiple Seating Layout Options Like MG Hector Plus

Tata motors had recently showcased the near-production version of their upcoming flagship vehicle, the Tata Gravitas. Now, new reports suggest that the SUV might feature both a 6- and a 7-seater version.

Just like its biggest competitor, MG Hector Plus, Tata Gravitas will feature two seating configurations. The 6-seater version will have captain seats in the second row, while the 7-seater version will have a bench seats instead. In a similar fashion, Tata’s current flagship, the Hexa MPV, is also available in both 6- and 7- seater variants.

While there has been no confirmation regarding the launch date, the 6-seater Gravitas is expected to go on sale somewhere around April 2020, right after the BS6 norms kick in. The 7-seater version is expected to follow soon. The company has also recently released a TVC for the Gravitas, showcasing the practicality of the vehicle in a family-oriented setting.

The Gravitas will be powered by the same engine that powers its donor vehicle, the Tata Harrier. That will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 (KRYOTEC) diesel engine sourced from Fiat. The same can also be seen under the hood of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual as standard or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic as an option. The latter gearbox is sourced from Hyundai.

To distinguish between the two, the Gravitas will feature a few visual differences over the Harrier. The rear section of the Gravitas will feature a sharper taillamp design, while the side profile has a different alloy wheel design, slightly longer overhang at the rear, and new D-pillar-integrated roof-rails. You also have blacked-out A-, B-, and C-pillars, blacked-out ORVMs, etc. There is a lot of equipment on offer inside the upcoming Tata SUV. You get e-parking brakes, auto-dimming IRVM, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There is no word on the pricing yet. Upon launch, Tata Gravitas will compete with MG Hector Plus and forthcoming Mahindra XUV500 facelift.
