The Tata H7X will be highly based on the Harrier 5-seater SUV that goes on sale in February. It will offer bigger dimensions and seven seats

While it was earlier speculated that the Tata H7X would launch in 2020, Guenter Butschek, MD & CEO of Tata Motors has recently confirmed that the seven-seater version of the Harrier will be introduced in the current calendar year. The upcoming seven-seat version of the Harrier with codename H7X will offer a longer dimension and less sporty look but with a conventional roofline.

According to Butschek, the “firework of launches in the calendar year 2019” will have the H7X included. However, Tata Motors will schedule to launch it as a separate product with a different name. Regarding the dimension, the seven-seat variant will be 62mm longer but with the similar 2,741 mm wheelbase as the Harrier. The length of 4,660 mm reflects more about a family-oriented version. The longer dimension can be explained by the fact that adding the third-row of seats also means requiring the body stretch. As a result, the floating roof will be redesigned as well.

As for the performance, Tata Harrier-based H7X SUV will generate more power than the Harrier, which will be required to make up for the increment in weight. The Tata H7X will feature a 170 PS version from the 2.0 litre Fiat Multijet engine, which is called Kryotec.

The car will come with two transmission option including

  • 6-speed manual unit (from the Tata Harrier)

  • 6-speed torque converter automatic unit (licensed from Hyundai)

The Tata Harrier is scheduled to launch in the Indian market on the 23rd of January 2019. Ahead of the launch, the bookings are being accepted at all Tata dealership network across the country. As for the H7X, it is expected to make its debut sometime before the festive season, or by the end of this year.
