Tata H7X, a Harrier-based seven-seater SUV, was spotted on test on the public roads. Spy shots of the Harrier’s sibling have given us hints on the exterior look of this SUV.

Tata Motors has been working on the extended version of the Harrier with larger capacity. The H7X, previously known as Tata Q502, will share the same platform, but the design will be distinctly different from its five-seater counterpart. As indicated from the spy images, the new Tata seven seater inherits more or less the same facial features of the Harrier. However, the silhouette has substantially changed. The transformation from a five-seater to a seven-seater includes replacing the swooping roofline by an upright C-pillar, to save place to adopt the third row. The seven-seater also has a greater length than the Harrier by 62mm while the wheelbase stays unchanged at 2,741mm. It also sports bigger alloy wheels of 18 inches, which is significantly butch up its look.

Front the side profile, it could be pointed out from the latest images that H7X will come with roof rail and step boards, which are not featured on the Harrier. On the rear side, apart from the mentioned upright tailgate, it will also gain a sharper rear spoiler and bigger windshield.

It is expected that the interior of the new SUV will remain faithful to the Harrier. But one thing that could be foreseen is that it could not end up with a spacious boot room as in the five-seater version. And also, the third rear could not offer the same comfort as in the first or second row and it better suits kids. On the Harrier, Tata has introduced the Kryotec 2.0-litre engine which is based on the 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine from FCA.A. For the seven-seater Tata H7X, this engine will be tuned to fit its macho body. The same version will also power the new Tata Hexa, Tata’s flagship SUV. The current Kryotec engine found on the Harrier is able to generate the power of 140PS and 350Nm. It is expected that the new reworked engine will come with higher power figure of 170 PS and stick the same peak torque of 350 Nm.

A 6-speed manual gearbox will take the transmission duty on the Harrier, which is possibly brought forward to the new H7X. Apart from the standard manual option, a 6-speed automatic gearbox might be added. This Hyundai-sourced automatic unit could also be adopted on the Tata Harrier in its later stage.   At the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Tata Motors will escort their new four models to the international stage. The H7X concept will be displayed here along with the production Tata 45X. Tata Harrier-based H7X will be launched in the other half of 2019. The price bracket is expected to be priced from Rs. 15 Lakh.
