Tata Motors has been actively promoting their new SUV – Tata Harrier H5X which is due to be out in just months from now. Series of teasers has been loaded recently. We have got some information about the platform, even have seen the endurance test of this upcoming car.

Just recently, Tata has released some details about their new diesel engine that is going to power their new SUV. The new engine is named Kryotec which is inspired by cryogenic rocket engine. The name reminds of a powerful engine with the unquestionable reliability. Cryogenic engine has been long known as the benchmark for the well-performance and refined engine. These are all the characteristics that we hope to see on the new Harrier.

The Kryotec is expected to be a four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine. It is claimed to pull out a powerful and refined engine. There aren’t many exact information about this new engine except for the name, however, it is anticipated that the engine is Fiat-sourced Jeep Compass’s four-cylinder Multijet 2.0 oil burner. The power and torque output are still unknown, but as far as we know, it might be tuned for about140bhp at best. On the Jeep, the engine is originally able to make 170bhp, but as the Harrier is going to be larger than the Jeep, the power outlet might be also a bit different. This engine might be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Another optional transmission option is the six-speed automatic gearbox which is sourced from Hyundai.

Tata said that the diesel engine will be a turbocharged unit with electronically controlled variable geometry system. Along with that, low friction valve train and an advanced EGR system will also be featured on the new SUV. It promises to meet the international benchmark in terms of refinement and performance.

Besides the details of the engine, Tata also reveals that Tata Harrier will get multiple driving setting, enabling the car to conquer different terrains. What’s more, the confirmed platform of the Harrier is the Omega Arc – the competent platform from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. Armed with such equipment, it is highly possible that the Harrier will get an all-wheel-drive system to even perfect the off-road capacity.
