Since launch, Tata Harrier has been offered with diesel engine only. However, in the near future, a new turbocharged petrol engine will be introduced on the Harrier as well.
Tata Motors is on the roll recently. Last month, the homegrown car manufacturer has become the third best-selling carmaker in the Indian market, ranking just after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. To keep the momentum going, in the future, Tata is planning to add some new vehicles to the line-up as well as strengthen the existing models. Tata Harrier is among the models that will be given updates in the imminent future. This SUV was launched last year and has quickly become one of the most popular choices in its class. However, from the beginning, Tata only offers a diesel engine for the Harrier. Seeing the increasing demand for a petrol engine, Tata Motors has decided to add a new turbo petrol engine to Harrier’s range.
Tata Harrier Turbo Petrol is expected to enter the market by the end of this year
It is suggested that Tata Motor will launch the Harrier Turbo petrol by the end of this year. Apparently, if the Harrier is available with a petrol option, it will be able to draw more customers. At the moment, most vehicles in the compact SUV segment are on sale with both diesel and petrol engines.
The new turbocharged petrol engine is expected to be a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol unit. This engine is under the development state. It is expected to come with a peak power of more than 150 Bhp. The engine is likely to come with either the 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic transmission. The exact specs of the new engines will be revealed later when the launch date is near.
With more than 150 Bhp of maximum power, the Tata Harrier Turbo will be more powerful than the Kia Seltos and MG Hector and even the segment-leading Hyundai Creta. Tata Harrier Turbo petrol is likely to come with multiple driving modes including the Sport mode. Paddle shifter might be available as well.
