Tata 45X is confirmed to arrive in mid-2019, and the seven-seater H7X will come shortly thereafter

2019 will be an important year for Tata Motors. After the launch of Tata Harrier in January, there is going to be the arrival of Tata 45X in mid-2019; and shortly after that, Tata H7X will be kicked off, confirmed by Guenter Butschek, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Motors. Possibly, at the end of the year, we could have seen three new SUVs from Tata to plying on Indian roads.

Tata H7X shares the same Land Rover-sourced D8 platform with Tata Harrier. This flexible platform could double to underpin a larger vehicle, and Tata Motor will not miss this convenience and make use of Tata Harrier’s construction by developing a seven-seater out of the given platform. Tata H7X is the side-product of the Tata Harrier and will go on sale with its own identity and nameplate.

Marking the divergence between the Tata Harrier and the seven-seater version HX7, Vivek Srivatsa, the Marketing Head emphasized that it will be fundamentally distinct from the Harrier, especially with the exterior appearance which “will look completely different”.

It is expected by the time the Tata HX7 is ready, Tata might have it armed with the newly-updated 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel motor. New updates are given to make the motor in line with the upcoming BSVI emission regulation which will come into effect in April 2020. The existing motor on the Jeep Compass that come in higher tune will also be included in the engine line-up for the Tata HX7. This unit is currently able to churn out 173bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.

While Tata Harrier comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, the seven-seater will be offered with both 6-speed manual gearbox and Hyundai-derived 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.

In terms of price, the seven-seater H7X will be costlier than the Tata Harrier, rating at 15 lakh.
