Tata HBX Gets Rival From Hyundai Even Before Launch - Full Info

The new Hyundai micro-SUV has been spied on the roads for the first time ever. Codenamed the AX1, the mini-SUV from Hyundai will rival the likes of Maruti Ignis and the upcoming Tata HBX. As we had reported earlier, the imminent Hyundai AX1 will be the company’s entrant into the segment of high-riding cars with SUV-styled look. Considering the decent response to the Maruti Ignis and the rising interests from buyers towards the soon-to-be-launched Tata HBX, the introduction of the Hyundai AX1 could make sense.

The Hyundai AX1 spotted in the spy shots is heavily camouflaged but a closer look can reveal that the new Hyundai micro-SUV will borrow some styling elements from the Hyundai Venue. We expect the new AX1 will measure around 3.7 – 3.8 metres, making it shorter than the Venue yet longer than the Santro sibling. The new Hyundai car comes with an upright and boxy stance alongside a flat bonnet and a large glasshouse. It features a large Hyundai’s grille with a two-tier headlamp setup inspired by the Venue and Creta upfront while the alloy wheels and tyres look stylish and as big as 15-inches units.

The Hyundai AX1 micro-SUV will likely be based on the K1 platform. It will share the same underpinning and engine options with the Hyundai i10 Nios. There will be a 1.0-litre petrol and a 1.2-litre petrol engine that come mated to either a 5-speed MT or an AMT option. Hyundai has been considering the low-cost electric vehicles for emerging markets like India for quite some time. Until now, there’s no concrete evidence on whether the upcoming Hyundai AX1 micro-SUV would receive any electrification. There’s no official information on when the South Korean company brings in this new micro-SUV to India. However, it is safe to assume that the car might hit the market by the end of 2021. Upon its launch, the Hyundai AX1 micro-SUV will stack up against the Tata HBX that is set to have its market launch next year.
