Tata HBX is expected to go on sales at the end of this year or in early 2021. This SUV-ish hatchback was recently spotted undergoing road test in its production form.

Tata HBX made its debut at the Auto Expo 2020 that took place earlier this year. The production version of the stylish concept is expected to launch later this year or early next year. Recently, the production-ready HBX, concealed by heavy camouflage, was spotted undergoing road tests.

It is claimed that aesthetically, the production version of the Tata HBX will be largely similar to the concept car showcased at the motor show. As per the latest spy shots, it appears that Tata Motor will carry forward the design elements from the concept car to the production version. For example, it is being said that the mass-manufactured version will feature similar taillamps but with a slight difference in the tri-arrow LED pattern.

The Tata HBX is based on Tata’s Impact 2.0 design philosophy. Hence, the micro SUV inherits signature design elements of the new design language like the split headlamps that debuted on the H5X concept. It is also likely that the production HBX will get faux skid plates on both the front and the rear end to enhance the SUV-ish styling.

On the inside, the micro SUV is expected to be equipped with a 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a premium Harman-sourced sound system. It will also feature the same steering wheel that is found on the Altroz.

Under the hood, the Tata HBX will derive power from the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol motor that delivers a top power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. It is likely to come with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional automated manual transmission. The upcoming model will be underpinned by the ALFA-ARC platform that debuted on the Altroz. The new model will take on the likes of Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. It is likely that Tata Motors will price this micro SUV competitively. The price of this hatchback is expected to range from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
