Tata Motors has been paving the path of affordable electric mobility in the Indian car market. The indigenous brand launched the first high-voltage EV of the country in the form of Tata Nexon EV. While the electric SUV managed to be the best-selling electric car in the year 2020, the carmaker was recently issued a show-cause notice regarding the Nexon EV’s driving range. In the past few months, some owners have complained about the poor driving range of the Nexon EV. They claimed that the car has been failing at offering the ARAI-claimed driving range of 312 km. With complaints received from buyers, Delhi government delisted the Tata Nexon EV from its subsidy scheme.

Commenting over the issue, Tata Motors spokesperson quoted, “It is unfortunate to receive this order from the Delhi Transport Commission. The Nexon EV is the only personal segment EV in the Indian market that meets the stringent FAME norms. The range at single full charge (312 km) for the Nexon EV is based on the certification received from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), which is the official body that independently tests all mass-produced vehicles under standard/defined test conditions before they can be offered to customers.”

He further added, the driving range or the fuel efficiency in the case of ICE vehicles is dependent on a lot of factors, like the AC usage, actual driving condition, tyre pressure, driver inputs and more. Similarly, the range of an electric vehicle depends on a slew of factors. Also, the range achievement is in direct relation to the familiarity with the vehicle. Hence, it increases with time. Tata Motors spokesperson affirmed that the brand has been receiving positive responses from the Nexon EV buyers regarding the driving range.
