Tesla Now Officially in India, Incorporated in Bengaluru

Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited was incorporated on January 8, marking Tesla’s very first footstep in the Indian auto space.

For every now and then, India has been waiting for the arrival of the American electric car giant, Tesla. In fact, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, who just became the world’s richest and was quickly dethroned a while back, has revealed their penetration into India on various occasions. Finally, the wait is almost over as Tesla has already registered its Indian subsidiary christened as “Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Ltd” that was incorporated in Bengaluru last Friday. The electric carmaker is expected to start its operations by mid-2021 with the very maiden product to be the Tesla Model 3, as per reports.

Based on the document filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Tesla India Motors & Energy Private Limited has appointed Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein as the directors of the entity.

Karnataka’s Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has also confirmed the development through his grand welcome to Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk on his Twitter. That said, Yeddyurappa mentioned how Karnataka will lead the country’s journey towards Green Mobility and revealed that Tesla is looking to set up its R&D unit in Bengaluru. However, the tweet has been removed by now.

Media reports suggested that Tesla would not open a manufacturing facility in India at the initial stage. The company will have Tesla China as the primary supplier but once picking up the good demands, the possibility of the locally-made Tesla cars for India is very high. It was also reported that Tesla had talks with many state governments like Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to establish its operations in the respective regions while the company is also evaluating the local partnerships.
