The Toyota-badged Ertiga, the third rebadged offering to the Indian auto market under Suzuki-Toyota cooperation, could be launched by August 2021.

As is widely known, the Toyota Glanza, which is a repurposed Maruti Baleno, became the first cross-badged prouduct to emerge from the partnership between Suzuki and Toyota. In March 2019, the two companies announced their plans of expanding the partnership. The two Japanese auto manufacturers confirmed that many new aspects are being considered for a collaboration. One of these is the offering a Toyota-badged Maruti Ertiga in the Indian and, maybe, even the African auto markets.

The Toyota-badged Maruti Ertiga could start to on sale by late next year.

The current second-gen Suzuki Ertiga is manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in Gurgaon, India and Suzuki Indomobil Motor in Cikarang, Indonesia. The rebadged Ertiga, which is likely to be put on sale in both India and Africa, is expected to be manufactured by the latter.Having said that, neither Toyota nor Suzuki have confirmed if the rebadged MPV will be launched in Africa. Even the decision to offer the vehicle in the Indian auto market is yet to be revealed officially. The latest piece of information about the rebadged Maruti Ertiga comes to us through an unrevealed source of a business publication.

Disappointingly, no new global product under-INR-10-lakh mark will be launched by Toyota in the Indian auto market in the near future. Instead, the company will largely depend on Maruti Suzuki for their new models in these segments. Actually, if Toyota has any intention of penetrating into any of the new segments under the partnership, the second-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza, in all likelihood, will be produced at one of the TKM’s factories as well.

The Toyota Platinum Etios, Toyota Etios Cross and Toyota Etios Liva, which are priced at INR 6,50,400*, INR 6,50,000* and INR 5,34,500*, respectively, will be discontinued from the Indian auto market in March. By this time, the Toyota Glanza, which has a starting price of INR 6,97,900*, will become the most affordable model in TKM’s portfolio in our country.
