Starting with the Epic variant first, it gets a nudge guard on the front with ‘EPIC’ inscribed on it.  On the rear, it gets a tow hook to pull a trailer. The changes on the inside include metallic scuff plates for the door sills and a set of custom floor mats. The Epic Black variant, on the other hand, features black treatment for the nudge guard, outside rearview mirrors, alloy wheels, and the roof, giving it a dual-tone paint job. Also, the design for the alloy wheels for the Epic Black variant is also different from that of the regular version of the car. These Epic and Epic Black variants will be available in 4 colour scheme only, namely Glacier White, Graphite Grey, Avant-Garde Bronze, and Chromium Silver.

Talking of the powertrains, the Fortuner is offered with a 2.7L petrol, 2.4L diesel, and a 2.8L diesel engine in the South African market. The 2.7L unit is good to belt out 165 PS/245 Nm, while the 2.4L diesel churns out 150 PS/400 Nm. The largest of the lot – 2.8L diesel whips out 176 PS/450 Nm. The 2.7L petrol and 2.8L diesel are offered with a 6-speed AT as standard, however, the 2.4L can be had either with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The 4X4 drivetrain is also available as an option with the diesel engines. The petrol, however, misses out on 4X4 even as an option.
