Toyota Fortuner Facelift Receives 5-star Rating In ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

Ahead of international debut, Toyota Fortuner has achieved full star rating in ASEAN NCAP crash test. Toyota Hilux also receives five-star at the same crash test.

Toyota Fortuner facelift and Toyota Hilux has currently passed the ASEAN NCAP crash test with flying colour. Both of these models acquire full star rating at the crash test.

Toyota Fortuner and Hilux has received a five-star rating in ASEAN NCAP

According to ASEAN NCAP’s report, the two vehicles from Toyota have achieved the same level of occupant protection. The Toyota Fortuner facelift scored 34.03 points out of 36 points in occupant protection grading. As per the child occupant protection, the 2021 Toyota Fortuner received 43.38 points against the maximum score of 49. In terms of safety assist technologies, the SUV got 13 points out of 18.

The frontal impact scores of the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux are comparable. However, the Hilux slightly edged out in terms of side impact protection with 16.0 points while Toyota Fortuner received 14.53 points. On the other hand, with regards to the head protection, Toyota Fortuner has done a better job with 3.50 points against Hilux’s 2.40. In total, Toyota Fortuner scored 87.46 points, meeting the highest protection standard.

It is reported that the SUV offered good protection to the adult occupants on the front seat during the front-impact test. However, the test also shows that the driver’s lower legs were exposed to the risk of injury. According to the test report, the car also provided good protection during the side impact test.

Both 2021 Toyota Fortuner facelift and the Toyota Hilux are scheduled to enter the Indian market in the future. The facelift Fortuner is expected to come with a BSVI-ready 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine which can generate a top power of 164 Bhp and a top torque of 245 Nm. Additionally, the Fortuner will also come with a  2.8-litre engine with 201 of power and 500 Nm of torque. It will be available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Toyota Hilux is expected to enter the Indian market soon

The Toyota Hilux used on the NCAP test is a Thailand-spec model which is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine. The pickup truck is expected to make its way to the Indian market next year. Toyota Hilux shares the same structure and features with the Fortuner.
