Toyota Fortuner has received the much-awaited mid-cycle update and here's how it looks.

Toyota has launched the Fortuner facelift in the Thailand market at a starting price of Rs 31.49 lakh (TBH 1,319,000). The SUV is expected to make its way to India by the end of this year. The facelifted Fortuner gets a slew of changes on the outside as well as on the inside. Toyota will sell the Fortuner in the Thailand market in two variants, namely Fortuner and Fortuner Legender. The Legender will sport a beefed-up features list in comparison to the base model. Talking of the changes, the SUV now gets a revised front end with the new headlamps and bumper in place. The Fortuner’s front facet now looks matured and gives it an increased street presence.

The radiator grille on the base model of the Toyota Fortuner has also grown in size. On the sides, it gets a new design for the 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear facet of the base model of the car, however, gets a new glow pattern for the tail lamps. In comparison, the Legender model adopts a slightly different styling approach. It gets a different set of headlamps, a sleeker grille, and a sportier bumper. It seems to be inspired by the recently launched Harrier. Also, it gets bigger 20-inch alloy wheels in comparison to the base model’s 18-inchers. The case is similar on the rear as well, as a sharper bumper with blacked-out scuff plate is used.

The Fortuner facelift will come with 2 engine options – 2.4L diesel and 2.8L diesel. The 2.4L diesel will use a 4-cylinder configuration with a turbocharger to put out 150 PS/400 Nm. The bigger 2.8L unit, however, will churn out 204 PS of peak power and 500 Nm of max. torque. It is technically the same unit that is currently offered on the Fortuner in India. With increased performance, this motor now features a secondary balancer shaft for better refinement. Also, to ensure maximum possible low-end grunt in off-road mode, the car’s idling RPM has been reduced to 680 RPM. But the 2.8L unit will not be available in the base model of the Fortuner.

On the inside, things largely remain the same in terms of looks. But the SUV now gets a new 8.0-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment unit that also offers the connectivity support of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. T-Connect connectivity is also a new addition to this unit. While the pre-facelift model missed out on the much-need 360-degree camera, the facelift comes with one to make it easier to park this behemoth. Wireless charging dock and kick to open tailgate are the new addition to the Fortuner’s feature list. On the safety front, it now comes with the added advantage of Dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning, and collision-detection system.
